What age is best for a child's portrait?
Any age! Baby portraits are lovely. As are mother and child portraits, portraits of children under the age of 5. Some parents like to catch the moment before the child loses her first tooth. Others like the thoughtful look of children aged 5 to 8 or children as they grow and become more of themselves. Honestly any age.
What sizes are available?
Portraits come in three sizes: head and shoulders (generally 11"x14" to 14"x18"); head, shoulders and hands--also called a 3/4 figure (dimensions range from 16"x 20" to 30" x 40") and full figure (18" x 36" and up to approximately 36" x 72").
Do you work from photographs?
The artist prefers to work from life whenever possible. Live sittings obtain the best results. For small children the artist works from her own photographs whenever possible. It is best to have kids come to the studio so she can meet them and do a photo session.
Can you do a painting from my photograph?
If you have a photograph of a treasured family memory, the artist can use those to create a family memory painting, which are paintings in which the figures are reduced from life size and the emphasis is on the scene and the emotional power it evokes.
Portraits on the other hand, are paintings done at life size that emphasize a single figure (or in some cases, a couple or a few siblings)
